What does Runpod do?

Runpod is a GPU cloud for AI: on-demand GPU Pods in 31 regions, serverless GPU endpoints that scale from zero, multi-node Clusters and a Hub of open-source model templates. Pods start at $0.27/hr (RTX A5000); an H100 SXM is $3.99/hr as listed. It suits developers who train or serve models; skip it if you want a no-code AI app.

  • GPU Pods. On-demand GPU machines across 31 global regions, from RTX A5000 to H200, B200 and B300, as reserved or lower-priced interruptible Spot instances.
  • Serverless endpoints. Run API-based AI workloads on serverless GPUs that autoscale from zero with request queuing; Runpod says an endpoint costs nothing when it isn't running.
  • FlashBoot cold starts. Runpod claims sub-200 ms cold starts for serverless workers.
  • Instant Clusters. Multi-node GPU clusters for distributed training, with InfiniBand networking.
  • Runpod Hub. Deploy open-source AI models and templates, or bring your own containers and code.
  • Network storage. Persistent network volumes that share model weights across workers, with no egress fees.
  • Secure Cloud. Network-isolated environments for stricter compliance needs, alongside the Community Cloud.
  • Compliance. SOC 2 Type II audited; the FAQ says HIPAA and GDPR, with BAAs and DPAs through the Trust Center; coverage varies by region and deployment.

Checked on Nov 5, 2026 with a US-based fetch; rates are per hour of use and change with availability, so treat them as a snapshot. The Pods table shows one price per GPU, which matches the Secure Cloud prices in the page's FAQ; the FAQ also gives lower Community Cloud starting prices for some GPUs (A100 PCIe from $1.19/hr, A100 SXM from $1.39/hr, H100 PCIe from $1.99/hr, H100 SXM from $2.69/hr). Storage: container disk $0.10/GB/mo, volume disk $0.10/GB/mo running and $0.20 idle, network storage $0.07/GB/mo under 1 TB. The page mentions no free credit or minimum deposit. Reserved Clusters (1 to 12+ months) are quoted by sales.

Runpod pros and cons

What stands out

  • Hourly GPU prices published for over 20 GPU types
  • Entry GPUs from $0.27/hr
  • Serverless endpoints scale to zero
  • No contract needed for on-demand Pods
  • Network storage with no egress fees
  • SOC 2 Type II audited

Watch out for

  • Rates change with availability, so costs can move
  • Needs developer skills: containers, models and endpoints
  • Pods table doesn't label Secure vs Community pricing
  • Serverless rates are higher per hour than Pods
  • Reserved cluster pricing is only by quote

Runpod FAQ

How much does Runpod cost?

As of Nov 5, 2026, GPU Pods start at $0.27/hr (RTX A5000). An RTX 4090 is $0.89/hr, an A100 80 GB $1.79/hr and an H100 SXM $3.99/hr. Serverless starts at $0.58/hr for 16 GB GPUs.

Does Runpod have a free tier or free credits?

The pricing page we checked on Nov 5, 2026 doesn't mention free credits, a free tier or a minimum deposit.

What is the difference between Pods and Serverless?

Pods are GPU machines you rent by the hour and manage yourself. Serverless runs your model behind an endpoint that scales from zero, so you pay only while requests run, at a higher hourly rate.

What is Community Cloud vs Secure Cloud?

Secure Cloud runs in network-isolated environments for stricter compliance. The FAQ lists lower Community Cloud starting prices for some GPUs, such as A100 PCIe from $1.19/hr versus $1.79/hr in the main table.

How much does an H100 cost on Runpod?

As listed on Nov 5, 2026: H100 SXM $3.99/hr, H100 PCIe $2.89/hr and H100 NVL $3.19/hr as Pods; serverless H100 is $5.39/hr. Community Cloud H100 SXM starts from $2.69/hr per the FAQ.

How much does Runpod storage cost?

Container disk is $0.10/GB/mo, volume disk $0.10/GB/mo while running and $0.20 when idle, and network storage $0.07/GB/mo under 1 TB ($0.05 above).

Is Runpod compliant with HIPAA and SOC 2?

Runpod says it has an independently audited SOC 2 Type II report, and its FAQ says it is HIPAA and GDPR compliant with BAAs and DPAs available; coverage varies by region and deployment model.

Who is Runpod best for?

Developers and ML teams that train, fine-tune or serve models and want hourly GPUs without a contract. People who want a ready-made AI app with no code should look at an app instead.
