ElevenLabs Alternatives (2026): 3 Options Picked by the Job You Need Done

This page has no affiliate links right now: every link goes straight to the vendor. How we make money.

ElevenLabs is an AI audio platform that turns text into lifelike speech, clones voices and builds voice agents. Its paid plans start at $6/mo. The best ElevenLabs alternative depends on the job: voiceovers, editing your own recordings, or answering phone calls.

The short answer

For scripted voiceovers, try Murf AI (Creator $29/mo, or $19/mo billed yearly). To edit podcasts and videos with AI voices built in, pick Descript (from $16/mo yearly). For phone agents at company scale, Synthflow starts at $30,000 a year.

ElevenLabs pricing in brief

ElevenLabs charges in credits. A credit is a unit of usage; for text to speech, about 1,000 credits make one minute of audio. The free plan includes 10k credits a month (about 10 minutes), but no commercial license, and you must credit ElevenLabs.

Starter is $6/mo for 30k credits (about 30 minutes) with a commercial license and instant voice cloning. Creator is $22/mo for 121k credits and adds professional voice cloning. Pro is $99/mo, and team seats start on Scale at $299/mo. The pricing page sometimes runs first-month discounts; the prices here are the regular monthly ones.

Why people look for an ElevenLabs alternative

  • Credits run out fast. Starter covers about 30 minutes of speech a month. Four 10-minute videos a month need more than that.
  • The free plan isn’t for business. Free audio can’t be used commercially and needs attribution.
  • A different job. Some people really need an audio editor, or a phone agent with telephony and onboarding, not a voice generator.

None of this makes ElevenLabs a poor choice. It covers text to speech, dubbing, transcription and agents in one account. The question is which of those you need.

What a minute of AI voice costs

Credits and hours are hard to compare. This table divides each plan’s monthly price by the minutes of speech it includes. Descript and Synthflow aren’t in it, because they don’t sell minutes of speech.

PlanPriceMinutes includedPer minute
ElevenLabs Starter$6/moAbout 30$0.20
ElevenLabs Creator$22/moAbout 121$0.18
ElevenLabs Pro$99/moAbout 600$0.17

Murf AI Business (yearly)$66/mo5,760 a year$0.14

List prices checked October 10, 2026. ElevenLabs minutes are its own estimate for text to speech; other features use credits too. Murf yearly plans include a year of voice time up front.

Two things stand out. On monthly billing, ElevenLabs costs less per minute than Murf Creator ($0.18–$0.20 vs $0.24). Murf becomes cheaper per minute only if you pay for a year up front.

How we chose

We picked tools that replace one of ElevenLabs’ main jobs and read each pricing page on October 10, 2026. We compared published prices, included minutes, free plans and commercial terms only. We haven’t tested these tools hands-on yet, so we don’t claim any of them sounds more natural than ElevenLabs.

AI voiceover studio with 200+ voices for videos, presentations, e-learning and ads, plus a text-to-speech API.

Starts at
$29/mo billed monthly for Creator ($19/mo billed yearly)
Free option
Free plan: 10 minutes, no downloads, no commercial rights

Compared with ElevenLabs: Murf sells voice time in hours, not credits. Creator includes 2 hours of voice generation a month for $29, with commercial rights and downloads. ElevenLabs Creator costs $22 for about 121 minutes. Murf’s Studio lets you change pitch, speed, pauses and pronunciation down to a single word, and Creator works with Canva. Unused Murf time carries over to the next billing cycle once.

Who it’s for: You turn scripts into narration for explainer videos, e-learning or presentations, and want to fine-tune how each line is read in an editor.

Skip it if: You need dubbing into many languages, sound effects or an API-first workflow. Murf’s API is priced separately by usage.

Starts at
$24/mo billed monthly for Hobbyist ($16/mo billed yearly)
Free option
Free plan: 1 media hour a month, 720p export with watermark

Compared with ElevenLabs: Descript is an editor first. You edit a recording by editing its transcript, remove background noise with Studio Sound and cut filler words in one click. Paid plans include text to speech with custom voice clones and stock AI speakers. It doesn’t sell minutes of speech: Hobbyist includes 10 media hours and 400 AI credits a month.

Who it’s for: You record your own voice for a podcast or YouTube and mainly need to edit it, with AI voice as a fix-it tool rather than the main product.

Skip it if: You need long text-to-speech narration from scripts, or voices in many languages. A dedicated voice generator is built for that job.

Free ElevenLabs alternatives: what you really get

“Free” means something different on each plan. Read the limits before you build a project on one.

  • ElevenLabs Free: about 10 minutes of speech a month. No commercial license, and you must credit ElevenLabs.
  • Murf AI Free: 10 minutes of voice generation and 10 projects. You can’t download the audio or use it commercially, so it’s for trying voices only.
  • Descript Free: 1 media hour a month and 100 one-time AI credits. Text to speech and voice clones are limited, and exports are 720p with a watermark.
  • Synthflow: no free plan on its pricing page.

If you only need a few short clips for personal use, the free plans are enough to compare voices. For anything you publish or sell, plan on a paid tier.

When to stay with ElevenLabs

  • You want the lowest paid start: $6/mo includes a commercial license and instant voice cloning.
  • You need several audio jobs in one account: text to speech, dubbing into 90+ languages, transcription and sound effects.
  • You’re a developer. ElevenLabs offers an API with official Python and TypeScript SDKs, and agent minutes on every plan.
