What does Activepieces do?

Activepieces is an open-source automation platform for building flows and AI agents across 770+ app connectors. The cloud Free plan gives 1,000 credits a month, and Plus is a flat $20/mo for 10,000 credits and up to 5 users. It suits small teams that want run-based pricing or self-hosting; skip it if you need SOC 2 today.

  • Flows. A visual builder for multi-step automations with branching, retries, approvals, sub-flows and error handling. You can add inline TypeScript for tricky steps.
  • AI agents. Describe a job in plain language and the agent picks the tools and steps, using your connected apps and any MCP servers you add.
  • 770+ app connectors. Activepieces calls its connectors 'pieces'. The homepage lists 770+, all MIT-licensed open-source TypeScript, plus an HTTP piece and webhooks for any other API.
  • Human approval steps. Pause a flow so a person approves anything that touches money, customers or production, while the rest runs on its own.
  • Tables and knowledge base. Shared tables that flows and agents can read and write, and documents agents can search.
  • MCP server. Activepieces runs an MCP server so AI assistants such as Claude and Cursor can trigger the flows you build.
  • Self-hosting. Run the open-source Community Edition with Docker Compose (the recommended route, with PostgreSQL and Redis) or a Kubernetes Helm chart; the managed cloud runs in Frankfurt.
  • Bring your own AI keys. On Plus and above, plug in your own model provider keys so AI steps cost 1 credit each instead of up to 20.

Checked on Oct 24, 2026. Prices are flat per workspace, not per user. One flow run costs 1 credit however many steps it has; AI steps add about 2 credits on a fast model, 10 on a smart model and 20 on a frontier model, and each agent action costs 1 credit. On Plus and above you can connect your own AI provider keys, which cuts each AI step to 1 credit (the model cost then goes on your provider bill). In practice, Plus covers 10,000 simple runs a month, or about 909 runs of a flow with one smart-model AI step (11 credits each). 1,000 extra credits cost $7. The page says annual billing saves 2 months but shows no annual prices, so we left those blank. Separate sales-led options: Embed (from $36,000 a year, for putting the builder inside your own product) and Enterprise control (custom, on your own servers or air-gapped).

Activepieces pros and cons

What stands out

  • Free cloud plan with 1,000 credits a month and no card

  • Each run costs 1 credit regardless of step count
  • Open-source MIT core you can self-host with Docker or Kubernetes
  • Bring-your-own AI keys keep AI-heavy flows cheaper on Plus and above
  • Low overage rate: $0.007 per extra credit on Plus and Team

Watch out for

  • AI steps on built-in models cost up to 20 extra credits, so AI-heavy flows use credits fast
  • No annual prices listed on the pricing page
  • SOC 2 is in progress, not yet certified (per the pricing FAQ)
  • SSO, roles and email support start at the $200/mo Team plan
  • Free and Plus support is community-only

Activepieces FAQ

Is Activepieces free?

Yes. The cloud Free plan costs $0 with 1,000 credits a month, unlimited flows and up to 5 users, and needs no credit card. When credits run out, runs over quota wait rather than fail. Paid plans start at $20 a month (Plus) for 10,000 credits.

How much does Activepieces cost per month?

As of Oct 24, 2026: Free $0, Plus $20 a month (10,000 credits, up to 5 users), Team $200 a month (50,000 credits, 25 users) and Ultimate at a custom price. Prices are flat per workspace. Extra credits on Plus and Team cost $0.007 each. Annual billing saves 2 months, but no annual price is shown.

How do Activepieces credits work?

Each flow run costs 1 credit, however many steps it has. AI steps add about 2 credits (fast model), 10 (smart model) or 20 (frontier model), and each agent action costs 1 credit. With your own AI keys on Plus and above, an AI step costs 1 credit.

Can I self-host Activepieces for free?

Yes. The Community Edition is the open-source core and can be self-hosted with Docker Compose or a Kubernetes Helm chart. Activepieces says paid plans add access control, auditing, team separation, release tooling, Agents and Chat, and vendor support, so the free self-hosted edition does not include every feature.

Is Activepieces open source?

Yes. The homepage says the core and every piece (connector) are MIT-licensed, and the code is on GitHub at activepieces/activepieces.

Activepieces vs n8n: which should I pick?

Both are workflow automation tools with a self-hosted option (n8n says its Community edition is on GitHub). Activepieces' cloud plans are flat per workspace, count 1 credit per flow run, and its core is MIT-licensed. We haven't reviewed n8n's plans yet, so check its current pricing and license on n8n's site before you decide.

Activepieces vs Zapier: is it cheaper?

Often for multi-step flows. Activepieces charges 1 credit per run no matter how many steps, while Zapier counts every successful action as a task. A 5-step flow is 1 credit on Activepieces but up to 5 tasks on Zapier. Check both pricing pages for your volume; our Zapier alternatives guide compares the options.

Is Activepieces secure?

The pricing FAQ says data is encrypted in transit and at rest, the cloud runs in Frankfurt (other regions on request), and you can self-host. It also says its SOC 2 program is in progress and not yet certified; a pentest summary, DPA and sub-processor list are available on request.
