What does Webflow do?

Webflow is a visual website builder with hosting and a CMS built in. Paid Site plans start at $15/mo billed yearly ($25 monthly) for Basic, and the CMS needs Premium at $25/mo yearly ($39 monthly). It suits designers and agencies who want full design control; skip it if you just need a quick, cheap small-business site.

  • Visual designer and hosting. Design pages visually without writing code and publish them on Webflow's hosting, with a custom domain on paid Site plans.
  • CMS. Store blog posts, case studies or products in collections; Premium holds 20,000 items in 40 collections.
  • AI site builder and AI Assistant. Generates a full starter site from a prompt, and a chat assistant inside Webflow helps with tasks and answers questions.
  • SEO and AEO audits. Runs sitewide audits and suggests fixes for search engines and AI answer engines (AEO means getting cited when people ask AI tools).
  • MCP server. Lets AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor build pages and CMS content in your site; the pricing page lists it on the Starter, Basic and Premium Site plans.
  • Interactions and animations. Build scroll, hover and load animations visually, powered by GSAP, with settings per screen size.
  • Ecommerce. Sell 500 to 15,000 products with a custom cart and checkout on the three Ecommerce plans.
  • Localize, Analyze and Optimize add-ons. Paid add-ons for translated versions of your site, visitor and AI-visibility analytics, and A/B tests and personalization.

Checked on Oct 24, 2026, in USD. Webflow sells two kinds of plans. Site plans are paid per website and cover hosting, your custom domain, bandwidth and CMS limits. Workspace plans cover seats, staging sites, custom code and AI credits. Every site lives in a Workspace, and the free Starter Workspace includes 1 full seat. The pricing page shows yearly prices; the monthly prices for Basic ($25) and Premium ($39) come from Webflow's May 2026 pricing announcement, and we left other monthly prices blank. First-year examples: one Basic site costs $180 billed yearly or $300 billed monthly; one Premium site costs $300 yearly or $468 monthly. Add a Core Workspace ($228 a year) for custom code and the yearly total is $408 with Basic or $528 with Premium. Add-ons cost extra: Analyze from $9/mo, Localize from $9/mo (Essential) or $29/mo (Advanced), Optimize from $299/mo, extra seats $39/mo (full) or $15/mo (limited), and 2,000 more AI credits for $20/mo, all billed yearly. Premium replaced the old CMS and Business plans in May 2026; existing sites move to the new prices at their next renewal or billable change on or after June 29, 2026 (Nov 16, 2026 for Freelancer and Agency Workspaces).

Webflow pros and cons

  • Basic has no CMS, so a blog needs Premium at $25/mo billed yearly
  • The free plan has no custom domain, 2 static pages, 1 GB of bandwidth and 50 form submissions
  • Extra full seats cost $39/mo each billed yearly, and the Team plan is $2,500/mo on an annual contract

Is Webflow free? What can you do on the free Starter plan?

Yes. Every account gets a free Starter Site plan and a free Starter Workspace. You can publish 2 static pages on a webflow.io address, with 50 CMS items, 1 GB of bandwidth and 50 form submissions. A custom domain needs a paid Site plan.

What is the difference between Webflow site plans and workspace plans?

A Site plan is paid per website and covers publishing, hosting, the custom domain, bandwidth and CMS limits. A Workspace plan covers the people and tools around your sites: seats, staging sites, custom code, code export and AI credits.

Do I need a workspace plan to publish a site?

Not a paid one. Every site lives in a Workspace, and the free Starter Workspace includes 1 full seat. To publish on your own domain you need a paid Site plan. Pay for a Workspace plan such as Core ($19/mo yearly) only if you need more staging sites, extra seats, or features like custom code and code export.

Which Webflow plan includes the CMS?

Premium ($25/mo billed yearly, $39 monthly) is the cheapest Site plan with the full CMS: 20,000 items in 40 collections. Basic has no CMS. The free Starter plan has a limited CMS with 50 items, and the Ecommerce plans include 2,000 to 10,000 CMS items. Premium replaced the old CMS and Business plans in May 2026.

Is Webflow cheaper billed annually?

Yes. Basic is $15/mo billed yearly vs $25 monthly, so $180 vs $300 a year. Premium is $25/mo yearly vs $39 monthly, so $300 vs $468 a year. Webflow's FAQ says that if you cancel, you still pay the rest of the term you signed up for.

Is Webflow worth it for a small business?

If you just need a simple site fast, a cheaper builder may fit better: Wix starts at $17.77/mo billed yearly (checked Oct 10, 2026) and Durable at $25/mo billed monthly (checked Oct 23, 2026). Our Webflow alternatives guide compares more options. We haven't tested Webflow hands-on.
